Sunshine today

Our last milking for awhile; no idea why I have such a goofy expression, maybe because I am goofy!

First strawberry blooms (will get pinched off).

Milking is going really well, Vera is letting down wonderfully now that Jules is gone. We have been storing up all we can to put off the no-fresh-milk time a little longer.

Cooper, look here!

  1. Hey there! I hope you enjoy the great weather! We are just resting in HIS grace! I hope to have some news soon. Love all the pictures.

  2. I am interested in how you are storing up the milk for later. Do you freeze it?

I almost go milk-free when I dry Willow. I don't like drinking 'store' milk.

  3. Hi gld, I have it all in the fridge, I expect we will drink the 10 gallons in 10 days, so no need to freeze it. When we do freeze milk I try to skim as much of the cream off as possible first.

  4. Darn, I discovered your blog just as you are moving from your farm! Our family moved to a little 10-acre farm a year & a half ago and has dived into chickens, pigs, gardens, bees, turkeys and cows. We just got a family milk cow and I am looking for a portable milker. I'm wondering what you are using here ( a Surge?) , and how well you like it. And for that matter, are you considering selling it?
